Description

I’m a disabled 77-year-old woman who needs help around the house and assistance moving to my new home. (I’m in Cambrian now, moving to Willow Glen.) I am also a published writer and photographer and need help organizing projects. I prefer long-term. If you meet the basic requirements but only want/are able to do some but not all of the tasks below, please do apply; I need a team. This is a job which, although there is a basic routine, varies every day. You will know that your work is greatly valued and directly helps two other human beings and one very cute cat. Here are some examples of the skills needed for this position:

Organizing “stuff” - in both houses
Vegetarian cooking
Occasional personal care (no bladder or bowel care)
Careful housework - I will provide cleaning products
Errands
Shopping
Driving me to appointments in your car (I will consider applicants without cars if you’re only working in the house and have reliable transportation to get here. A bike, for instance.)

Requirement for all applicants:
Non-smoking and fragrance-free (see below)
Reliable, insured, smoke-free car (unless you’re only working in the house)
Ability to follow written and verbal directions
Fluent in English
Must pass live-scan fingerprint (one time) as part of registration
Detail-oriented quick learner
Able to perform tasks without exacerbating any health challenges of your own
Dependable, punctual
16 years old or over
Must be registered with In-Home Support Services. (I will help you with this.)
COVID vaxxed and boosted

What does Fragrance-Free mean?
Due to my disabilities, I must avoid exposure to scented products, tobacco and marijuana smoke, etc. For my workers, this means no scents (chemical or ‘natural’) in any personal care or laundry products you use. (Please read labels.) No dryer sheets. If you don’t already use them, I will help you find fragrance-free products and will gladly provide them to you for the interview.

Hours are flexible and range from 5-25 a week, depending on the skills you bring, and how our schedules mesh. Work shifts will rarely be before 9AM or after 9PM. Health care, including dental, vision, therapy, and other benefits are available through IHSS. I reimburse for mileage: 65.5 cents a mile. Regular raises - next one probably Jan 1, 2024. Other perks come with the job.

This is a great position for the right person. I’m looking for someone calm, kind, LGBTQ+friendly, patient, positive, reliable, honest, hard-working, well-organized, and conscientious. (A sense of humor couldn’t hurt.) I need someone who will respect my home and privacy and respond with flexibility to my shifting disabilities. If this all sounds good, please send me an email including your phone number, references and good times to call you. More than a resume, I’d like you to tell me:

1. What times are you available? Is your schedule likely to change?

2. Which of the skills listed are ones where you shine?

3. Are there any tasks that you cannot/will not do?

4. What experience do you have which is relevant to this job?

5. Do you have any problem being fragrance-free while working for me?

5. Why are you applying for this job in particular?

I look forward to your email, including anything else you’d like me to know about you. Thanks for reading to the end of this long job posting.

Peace,
Barbara
