Seeking companion caregivers for high energy and very social 28yr old young man with cerebral palsy. Despite being in a wheelchair, and being quadriplegic, he enjoys being active and out in the community every day. Favorite activities include attending live music events, riding the ferry, taking his van to the car wash, visiting ice cream parlors/coffee houses, watching live concert videos, hanging out and having fun. This position is about companionship, engaging in activities together, and helping him participate in an active and satisfying life.
There is also a healthcare aide portion of this position:
Personal care, diaper changes due to incontinence, toileting, feeding all meals, showering, dressing.
We have motorized lift system in his house to facilitate transfers at home, so there is no lifting involved.
You must be comfortable with the personal care responsibilities, our you will not be a good fit for this position.
Previous experience is not required, but can be helpful.
For those with previous experience with personal care work, this is not a senior care position.
Personal care is 20% of the job.
The other 80% is about going to live music, socializing, visiting street fairs and farmers markets, talking to people and engaging socially with the people you interact with during the day. He likes to visit Starbucks just to chat up the baristas! So you need to be naturally social, open minded, energetic, and be enthusiastic about creating fun days together.
Its not just a job, its a companionship.
Several 7hr shifts available now:
(Pay is $28 per hour, rising to $30 November 1st. All shifts are every other week.)
Alternate Fridays 3pm-10pm
Alternate Saturdays 8am-3pm
Alternate Saturdays 3pm-10pm
Alternate Sundays 8am-3pm
Alternate Sundays 3pm-10pm
(weekend shifts can be combined with slightly adjusted hours if you wish to work a 12 to 14 hr day.)
Must be able to pass full background check, and have clean driver’s license. This is a legal W2 type position.
Musicians or musically inclined people most welcome as music plays an oversized role in his life!
He is very social, and likes to be out and about. The job involves driving him in our wheelchair adapted van to events, farmer's markets, street festivals, music gigs. All shifts involve some portion of feeding, bathing and personal care, but the main focus is initiating activities and having fun together on outings. The position is about being a best friend and companion, and engaging in positive and inspiring ways to have fun days together.
