Description

We are still looking for new caregivers to add to my team! This is a great opportunity for a qualified, reliable, flexible, and motivated caregiver or medical professional to use their skills in a home healthcare setting. I need 24/7 care, so we are always looking for more talented people.

I need someone with a flexible schedule who is available to work at least two overnight shifts per week ending around 9 AM, plus possibly some other day/evening shifts. **Weekend availability highly preferred** Please send us your regular schedule availability so we can see how you might fit in.

ABOUT ME:
I'm a 37 year old tech and computer enthusiast with a Computer Engineering degree from UC Berkeley. I have Muscular Dystrophy which makes my muscles very weak. I use a power wheelchair, ventilator and feeding tube. I mostly communicate by eye-tracking on a computer, and my caregivers do some lip reading. I need 24/7 care.

JOB DUTIES:
While the job involves using some medical equipment, most of the job involves general caregiver tasks to allow me to live my life, including positioning, range of motion exercises, personal care, transferring me into bed, medication administration, and other tasks as needed. I also have a tracheostomy for breathing, which means I cannot speak. You will be taught to lip read my regular words, phrases and cues.

Extensive training is provided until we both feel comfortable and competent in your ability to perform all parts of the job independently.

I am ventilator-dependent, so I need a highly responsible caregiver with the ability and aptitude to notice, prevent, and respond to urgent situations once you are trained.

REQUIREMENTS:
–Experience with physical disabilities. Respiratory, ventilator and tracheostomy care and experience highly desirable
–Ability to lift at least 30 pounds (for positioning me)
–Fluent English
–Must commit to working at least one year, as training is a significant investment
–Solid references from former employers; I will run a background check
–Lip-reading experience preferred
–Job requires some reaching, so if you're shorter than 5'4, some tasks may be physically difficult
–Valid drivers license preferred, but not required
–Can reliably commit to a consistent schedule
–Willingness to back up shifts when other caregivers are out

SCHEDULE:
There will be a regular weekly part-time schedule. We will work with you to determine your training and permanent schedule, depending on your availability, interest, and skills. Weekend availability highly desired!

Training involves a lot of time and effort for me, so I require at least a one year commitment. Some of my caregivers have been working with me for 5-10 years or more. Note that your training schedule may differ from your permanent schedule, which will be discussed.

PAY:
$29- $37/hr depending on relevant experience and credentials. I pay overtime, sick pay, bonuses, and give periodic raises. I also provide snacks on shift.

LOCATION:
I live 3 blocks from the Downtown Berkeley BART in my own home with my partner and dog. Free off-street parking is available.

You should be fully vaccinated and boosted for Covid-19, and willing to wear a mask on shift.
