The Audit Manager reports directly to the Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector (an elected County Official) and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Audit Division and providing managerial oversight to all operational audits, and some financial audits, of County departments and special districts to ensure compliance with accounting principles, laws, and policies governing county operations. In addition, the Audit Manager is responsible for leading risk assessment activities and recommending countywide audit priorities. Within the Audit Division, the Audit Manager establishes guidelines to accomplish work goals, prioritizes competing work projects and objectives, devises strategies to manage new or unresolved problems, and initiates change and process improvements. Oversight of the County's Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Whistleblower Hotline Program and managing a staff of five professional auditors are also responsibilities of this position.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for Audit Manager is a seasoned professional with both strong managerial and technical skills. Experience should include planning, executing, and completing audits in the following areas: finance, compliance, operations, grants, tax, and employee benefits. Candidates with this experience and the following characteristics will be considered highly competitive:
  • Strong technical internal audit skills, including IT audit skills and an in-depth working knowledge of internal auditing and internal control standards
  • A high degree of professionalism and leadership experience
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills
  • Sound judgement and the ability to work independently in non-routine situations
  • Able to interact comfortably with County management at all levels
  • A good listener with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Passionate about continuous operations improvement
