Join LA River Kayak Safari, the leading kayaking group on the LA River.
We run the fun, mild swift water of Frogtown, leading folks on an educational and fun experience of the river's potential. Our stretch of the river has a natural bottom with rocks, soil and plants like any river. Nature in the urban backyard is our home base. We own riverfront property in Frogtown, where we host our patrons, and launch and hold team meetings, including enjoyable after-kayaking get togethers. The job breeds fun, camaraderie, and connections between people but is only for those with exceptional love of physical exercise and the outdoors.
This is a 4-month position from Memorial Day through Sept 30, 2023, with the possibility of continuing on with ocean trips into the Fall and beyond.

Requirements:
Optimism, good communication, and physical fitness. If you are in shape and athletic, you do not need extensive prior kayaking experience. We can train you. However, a baseline of physical fitness and strength that is essential for success. You must be able to lift and load kayaks with the assistance of another person...and do this many times a day without complaint. The best part of the job is on the river itself but to get there we transport bikes, boats, and other gear back and forth with enthusiasm and cooperation among us. Knowledge or experience with outdoor recreation, kayaking or canoeing, and environmental education are all pluses. Comfort with public speaking is also a plus. The ability to drive a stick shift is a plus but not a requirement.
We typically run two trips per day on weekends with little rest in between. Hours are typically from around 11 am to around 730 pm.
Compensation is commensurate with experience but fair.
