Position Title: Sunday Children’s Program Team Lead
Hours: 5 1/2 hours per week – Sundays 9:30 a.m-1 p.m. for
Children’s programming, plus prep time during the week

Reports To: Director of Lifelong Learning
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Position Description
The Sunday Children’s Program Team Lead at the Unitarian Universalist Church of
Fresno (UU Fresno) provides an important service to our community by ensuring that
families have a safe, engaging, fun, and spiritually relevant program for their children
on Sunday morning. The program supports the development of Unitarian Universalist
religious principles and values within our children and families. These include:

Essential duties and responsibilities fall into the following two areas:

Weekly Responsibilities (these are examples for illustrative purposes only)
1. Receive and execute weekly lesson plans created by the Director of Lifelong Learning.
2. Serve as Team Lead for staff members who help facilitate our Sunday Children’s
Program.
3. Connect and build relationship with families and children and support their
integration into programming.
4. Supervise and care for children in the Sunday Morning Children’s Program.
5. Serve as Team Lead in guiding the children in lesson plans and activities. 
6. Meet with the Sunday Morning Children’s Program team during the 12:30 p.m.
meeting directly following the Sunday Children’s Program (30 mins.).
a. Share strengths and concerns from each week’s Sunday Children’s Program.
7. Enthusiastically and authentically support the religious principles and values shared
in our Unitarian Universalist Sunday Morning Children’s Program.
8. Arrive on time for scheduled hours.
9. Communicate in advance to Director of Lifelong Learning when they will not be
available to perform regular duties, providing at least 24 hours’ notice whenever
possible. 
10. Log and submit hours worked via the Gusto system.
Additional or Potential Responsibilities
1. Provide immediate First Aid or CPR care in the event of an emergency.
2. Communicate with parents in the sanctuary as needed.
3. Provide feedback to the Director of Lifelong Learning regarding program,
participants, and staff, as needed.
4. Assist with additional cleaning duties in the classroom and outdoor spaces.

Qualifications:
1. College degree preferred and relevant experience required. Comfort and familiarity
working with children in structured activities and free play. Ability to address basic
conflicts with loving kindness. Ability to adapt curriculum for classes as needed.
2. Experience directing team members, delegating tasks, and guiding their facilitation of
classroom activities. Comfortable with coaching team members in growing their
classroom support skills. Ability to work well with a diverse group of professionals and
volunteers.
3. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and people-focused perspective. Natural comfort
with people and ability to interact with strangers (children, youth, adult) in a
comfortable and energetic manner. Ability to build and maintain interpersonal
relationships. Possess emotional intelligence and outgoing personality.
4. Experience effectively communicating verbally and in writing and effectively
responding to inquiries, concerns or complaints; and effectively present information
to individuals and groups.
5. Ability to remember multiple names, faces, and personal details.
6. Demonstrated office technology skills to effectively use relational database,
spreadsheet, and word processing software. Social media skills a plus, but not
required.
7. Familiarity with Unitarian Universalism, or willingness to learn basic tenets in order
to represent its progressive faith perspective to spiritual seekers.
8. While we don’t require our Sunday Children’s Program Coordinator to identify as a
Unitarian Universalist, it is expected that the person in this position is in alignment
with Unitarian Universalist religious principles and values and can communicate
them enthusiastically and authentically.

develops realistic action plans.
Self-Management – Takes responsibility for the quality and effectiveness of one’s own
performance.
Team Player – Ability to work positively and professionally with visitors, staff, church
volunteers, and congregants.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk,
sit, use hands to enter data in a PC, and take notes. The employee is occasionally required
to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25
pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to
adjust focus for near-reading, viewing computer screen, reading written documents, etc.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those
an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
The typical environment will be the Sunday Children’s Program classroom, Sanctuary,
church nursery and outdoor patio, storage facilities, and other areas on the Alluvial Ave. UU
Fresno campus. Noise levels vary.
