employment type: contract
We are an education nonprofit seeking talented tutors to teach English (and math potentially) to a group of immigrant Spanish-speaking students. The students will meet with their tutor on a weekly schedule with the objective to bring the student as close as possible to his or her recommended grade level by the end of the semester. Grade level will be determined by United Stated national common core standards.
The custom learning path will contain resource recommendations for the tutor to work from including, but not limited to: free online textbooks, YouTube videos, and Khan Academy courses. The tutor will have a prepared lesson plan for each session that will correspond with each student’s unique learning path. The student will be expected to complete work between sessions.
Each student will meet with his or her tutor on a consistent weekly schedule, 1 hour per session, for a total of 30 hours. Depending on the start date of the program, students will either meet for 2 sessions/week for 15 weeks or 3 sessions/week for 10 weeks. All sessions will be conducted virtually.
You may have multiple students that you'll meet with weekly.
Cover Letter Should Include:
- Describe your 2 most recent tutoring/teaching experiences.
- Are you interested in teaching math as well? If so, which level of math do you feel comfortable teaching?
- Where would you look to find appropriate ELA material that aligns with US common core standards?
